The GO! learning path for Active Citizenship in reception education and upper secondary VET with special attention to labour market competences has already been finished. The learning path consists of four core competences that will empower pupils to participate actively in society.
In May, it was tested with over forty pupils and four enthusiastic teachers in reception education in two Belgian secondary schools. We found out that the competences that are selected in the learning path are deemed very useful by pupils. Teachers see the learning path as an instrument to coach pupils in developing competences that, until now, had had a reduced official place in the curriculum for reception education in Flanders, in spite of their relevance.
To guide and support teachers and school teams by the implementation of the learning path, we are currently working on an online toolbox and a self-grading and coaching tool. This will enable teachers to create powerful learning environments and encourage pupils to visualize the competences that they already master so they are owners of their learning process.
