European Commission: Tookit on the Use of EU Funds for the Integration of People with a Migrant Background

The European Commission presented this new toolkit at the European Economic and Social Committee on January 24, with the aim of assisting national and regional funding authorities in implementing integration policies from a “brand new angle.”

The toolkit tackles five main aspects of integration: employment, education, housing, reception and basic mainstream services. The stress is set on the creation and testing of policies beyond emergency situations, boosting synergies and a dynamic involvement of different actors through networking and partnerships.

EU Agency for Fundamental Rights: Current Migration Situation in the EU. Impact on Local Communities (Updated Feb. 2018)

This focus report by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) analyses the impact of migrations in local communities. It covers, among other challenges, how local actors are developing “good practices in education regarding language issues and introductory classes, training of teachers, specific support for asylum-seeking children and their families, segregation in education, and coordination or communication between stakeholders working in the field of education.”

This is the updated version of a report already published by the FRA, and, compared to 2016, the number of asylum seekers generally decreased in the majority of analysed locations in 2017. The full report launched in February 2018 can be downloaded here.
